For years, Traction Control has saved countless drivers from road mishaps in winter. Traction Control help reduce wheelspin when you drive on slippery roads.

Usually, when a wheel spins faster than other wheels on the vehicle, it signals loss of traction. Traction Control has sensors that detect changes in speed of wheels because of loss of traction. If some wheels are spinning wildly, Traction Control will intervene to safeguard against loss of traction.

It does this by initiating braking to the affected wheels to reduce their speed. The effect of both actions is a significant reduction in wheelspin. Once this happens, your car can regain traction and remain stable in winter conditions.

The Antilock Braking System is designed to reduce the risks of winter driving. In particular, the Antilock Braking System counteracts wheel lockups that occur in excessive braking conditions. Wheel lockups refer to instances where your wheels stop spinning because of excessive brake force. On the Corvette, each wheel has sensors attached; these sensors constantly monitor the wheel speed and transmit it to the ABS.

In hard braking conditions, these sensors will alert the ABS if one or more wheels are about to lock up. The ABS will react by swiftly decreasing the brake force on the affected wheels.

This allows wheels to regain their speed, eliminating lockup. What does the Active Handling System do? It detects and corrects unintended maneuvers while driving.
